
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) says it will explore partnering with France in the training of its personnel in civil protection and equipment support.
This is contained in a statement issued by Corps spokesperson, Emmanuel Okeh,in Abuja on Monday.
The NSCDC Commandant-General, Abdullahi Muhammadu, made the disclosure when the Interior Security Attache to France, Gérard Le Mer, visited him in his office.
Muhammadu said that the visit would fast track the discussion on the modalities of training of personnel on civil protection and equipment support to enhance the performance of the Corps in discharging it’s mandate.
He said the training would also help improve its disaster management unit and reposition the Private Guards Company to assist the NSCDC and other security agencies on information gathering at the grassroots level.
The commandant-general pledged the Corps readiness to ensure that normalcy returns in the liberated areas of the North-East.
“We are working hard to also provide security at the IDP Camps entry and exit points in order to restore confidence in the people of government presence,” he said.
He assured that the NSCDC as the lead agency in the protection of Critical Infrastructure and national asset in Nigeria would continue to work hard to curb vandalism, oil thief and illegal refineries in the country.
He said that the Corps had deployed about 2,300 Personnel to the North-East while 2,700 shall be joining them soon to make up 5,000 strong NSCDC Personnel to the North-East.
The France security attache, Gérard Le Mer said that French embassy was ready to collaborate with the Corps in the area of training and intelligence sharing.
He said that the embassy was pleased with the role of the NSCDC in the protection of Critical Infrastructure and as such the Corps needs to be supported with modern technologies for effective operations.
He also applauded the presence of the Corps Personnel in the North-East, and assured of his countries support in tackling the problem of terrorism (NAN)
