On Thursday, a man stormed a mosque in South Africa’s Malmesbury and stabbed two people to death before being killed by police.
The attack comes a only a month after deadly stabbing incident in which three men stormed a mosque in Durban, killing an Islamic leader and seriously injuring two others.
Police had said the incident showed “elements of extremism” but had no comments in regards to the motive behind the Malmesbury attack.
The police said in a statement that they were called to the mosque where they found two people stabbed to death and several injured.
Noloyiso Rwexana, spokeswoman for the Western Cape police, further told newsmen that,
“The suspect believed to be in his thirties and armed with a knife, charged at the police who tried to persuade him to hand himself over,
“He ignored the calls and tried to attack police. He was shot dead.”
