Nine suspected militants were killed in police operation in Bangladesh early Tuesday.
Sheikh Maruf-Hasan, a Commissioner in the Dhaka Police Department, said that one suspected militant was arrested and two others were injured and admitted to hospital.
He said that the raid occurred in the Kallyanpur neighbourhood in the Bangladeshi capital around 1 a.m. local time (19:00 Monday GMT) following a tip-off that suspected militants were in the area.
“Security forces and police cordoned off a five-storey building where they launched their operation.
The Police Inspector-General, Shahidul Haque, said that the targets were said to be members of Jumatul Mujahideen Bangladesh.
He said that their identities were not immediately released.
