A 37-year-old businessman, Mohammed Labaran, appeared in a Mararaba Upper Area Court on Thursday for allegedly being in possession of two stolen goats.
The accused, who resides at Masaka, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, is facing a count charge of unlawful possession of stolen goats.
The Prosecutor, Herman Donald, told the court that Sgt. Haruna Mohammed and Sgt. Luka Joseph, attached to ‘A’ Divisional Police Headquarters, Mararaba, arrested the accused.
Donald said the accused was arrested and brought to the station while they were on patrol along building material, Mararaba.
He said the accused was caught with two she-goats suspected to be stolen and when interrogated he was unable to give satisfactory account of the goats.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 319 of the Penal Code.
Labaran pleaded not guilty.
The Upper Area court judge, Ibrahim Shekaru, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N50, 000 bail with a surety in like sum.
Shekaru said that the surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court, submit a recent two passport photographs and adjourned the case till Oct. 10 for further hearing.
