
China has urged media organisations in Africa to help facilitate promotion of the China-Africa relations through their reportage.
The two-week training was organised by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China and the CIPG.
Lijun said that it was the common responsibility of both parties to strengthen cooperation between China and Africa.
The director stressed the importance of carrying on “traditional partnerships” and the need to learn from each other.
“This kind of people-to-people relationship is of importance to China-Africa relations; through our joint effort, we would help people know of a better China and Africa,” she said.
She commended participants for their zeal during the duration of the training and urged them to share the knowledge acquired.
Also speaking, the Vice President, Academy for International Business Officials (AIBO), Ministry of Commerce in China, Mr Zou Chuanming congratulated participants on the completion of the training.
He said that the training was an opportunity for both parties to share knowledge and promote media relations between China and Africa.
“China needs to know more about Africa and Africa also needs to know more about China.
“We hope that the two sides would have gained more knowledge and we urge that you be the messengers of friendly cooperation between African countries and China,” he said.
In an address, Mr Li Hengtian, the Assistant Director, CIPG expressed optimism that such programmes would further promote the relations between China and Africa.
Hengtian added that the training was “just the beginning of our friendship”.
He reiterated the need for participants to share their knowledge and change the stereotype that people had about Africa and China.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 32 journalists from 13 English-Speaking African countries participated in the programme.
The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of certificates to participants.
The programme included lectures on China-Africa relations, China’s news release system, and the use of the new media among others.
Other aspects of the programme were visits to media organisations, China’s historical sites such as the Great Wall, and museums in Beijing.
Participants also toured Wubei Province, Jingzhou and Yichang cities, visited Hubei Television Station, museums and went on boat cruise on the Yangtze River, among others.
