The Syrian Army on Friday said it shot down an Israeli plane after four jets violated its airspace, the state-run SANA News Agency reported.
Israeli planes targeted Syrian military positions in the eastern countryside of Homs, SANA added quoting a military statement.
The Syrian army then reportedly shot down a jet inside Israel and hit another.
The SANA report could not be immediately confirmed.
Syria described the Israeli attack as a “blatant aggression’’ that shows “the Zionist enemy’s support of terrorist gangs.’’
Earlier on Friday, the Israeli military said that several rockets were launched at Israel from Syria after Israeli jets attacked several positions in Syria overnight.
One rocket was intercepted by Israel’s defence systems.
Israeli civilians were never in danger, the statement said.
On Jan. 13, the Syrian army command said Israel fired rockets at a major military airbase outside Damascus, and warned Tel Aviv of repercussions of what it called a “flagrant’’ attack. (dpa/NAN)
