A maritime security expert, Mr Britus Bulama, has advised agencies and security operatives in the security arm of the Nigeria’s waters to check sea robbery in order to aid international trade.
Bulama, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Giant Stride Security Limited, made this disclosure to the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Lagos.
He was reacting to the robbery attacks on board a tanker vessel anchored at the Lagos General Purpose Anchorage on August 19.
Bulama said that the Nigeria’s waters had witnessed cargo traffic in recent times because of a peaceful environment.
According to him, the progress the country is making in the area of maritime security should not be allowed to fade away through the evil deeds of a few people.
“If we are serious to make the non-oil sector the hub of the economy, there is the need for the operatives to redouble their efforts in ensuring that the Nigeria’s waters remain attractive to investors.
“As stakeholders, the operatives should know that the country is relying on their ability to widen its revenue earnings,’’ Bulama said.
He said that such incident should be nipped in the bud through prior intelligence gathering, which would further send shivers into the spines of the would be perpetrators.
Bulama urged the security operatives to arm themselves with up-to-date information on the schemings of the sea marauders in order to foil their plans. (NAN).
