A Lugbe Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja on Tuesday sentenced a farmer Habib Ashri and an Electrician, Reuben Kumaga, to six months imprison for stealing.
Ashiri, 19, and Kumaga, 19, all of Gosa Toge Airport Road Abuja, were convicted on a three-count charge of joint act, house breaking and theft.
The duo admitted committing the offence and begged for leniency.
The Judge, Mr Abdullahi Garba, however, gave the convict an option to pay N35, 000 fine each, saying that the punishment would serve as a deterrent to others.
Garba also ordered the Aco Estate Police Outpost to return the recover items to the complainant.
The Prosecutor, Mrs Ndidi Ukoha, had told court that one France Jolly, the complainant and Proprietor of Gosa Primary School Abuja, reported the matter at the Aco Police Station on July 3.
Ukoha told court that the convicts committed the offences on the same date at Jabi, Abuja at about 3 a.m.
“The convicts criminally and intentionally broke into the complainant’s house and stole his property.
“The convicts made away with one LG plasma television; one woofer, one travelling bag, Samsung and LG DVD player, value yet to be known.
“The convicts were arrested and handed over to the police immediately.’’
Ukoha said that during police investigation, the convicts confessed to the crime and that the stolen items were recovered from them.
She said that the offences contravened the provisions of Section 79, 353 and 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
