The people of Aguda Community of Surulere, Lagos State, and South West Nigeria has written to Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) through their lawyer Barrister. Dapo Oduwole over what they call extortion of people of the community and victimization of the community secretary Mr. Lanre Oguntoyinbo. Find attached is the petition to NERC.
It was gathered that the community in the last 8 months has been having issue with Eko Electricity Distribution Company over high bills and inability to provide them with Prepaid Metes as directed by NERC.
Their issue started in February 2016 during a period the country was generating electricity below 1000MW, the Distribution Company supplying the community with power was billing a 2bedroom flat in Aguda as high as N48,000 according to some bills we saw which is attached.
Mr. Chikezie who resides on Anjorin Street was quoted saying; “EKEDP Staffs are not interested if you pay your bill or not, what they want is N2000 bribe for them not to disconnect you and this won’t be deducted from your bills”.
The secretary of the community was also ordered from their head office in Marina, Lagos for disconnection over 5weeks ago. The secretary has been leading the community to EKEDP offices and protecting the community from their illegal activity.
The community through their CDA (Aguda CDA) are weighing two options of either going to court or writing EKEDP to disconnect their community as they could no longer stand their high bills.
