
The Greek coastguard said that 59 people were saved near the island of Kos early Wednesday.
An official of the coastguard said on Wednesday in Athens that more than 300 migrants had been rescued from the Aegean Sea in the past nine days.
He added that the coastguard pulled 266 people to safety from the waters of the Aegean Sea since Aug. 8,
He said that two suspected smugglers were arrested and four boats confiscated.
The official explained that during the rescue, some of the boats carrying the refugees were on the verge of capsizing while some migrants had already fallen into the water when the coastguard pulled them to safety.
The staff responsible for migration in Athens said that over the past 24 hours, 147 people had been ferried from Turkey to the Greek islands in the east Aegean
