Group urges wealthy Nigerians, corporate bodies to support IDPs’ welfare

Wealthy Nigerians and corporate bodies have been urged to support the welfare of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), in the country.

Mr Chimbo Obieze, National Co-ordinator of Opportunity is Given International (OGI), made the appeal during interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Wednesday.

Obieze said the daily needs and feeding provisions for IDPs were too much for the Federal or State governments to shoulder alone.

Obieze, however, lauded the Federal Government for its security stride, especially fighting and decimating the insurgents.

“We are counting a lot of success stories in terms of security especially in the North East.

“Fighting and pushing back insurgents that had created deep fear in the country over the past seven years are highly commendable’’, he said.

The co-ordinator also lauded President Muhammadu Buhari and the security agencies for the recent release of 82 Chibok girls after the release of 21 in Oct, 2016.

“I must thank Mr President, as a father, he had bent over to allow for negotiation with insurgents to see that these girls are released unhurt.

“It shows a president with the heart of a father and one who listens and act according to the best interest of the nation’’, he said.

NAN reports that Boko Haram members in 2014 abducted more than 200 secondary school girls of Government Girls’ Secondary School, Chibok, Borno. (NAN)
