Mr Shina Sanyo, Tournament Director, Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN), says he is satisfied with the state of facilities at the Aper Aku stadium, venue of the ongoing Gov. Ortom handball tourney in Makurdi.
Sanyo told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Makurdi, that the facilities at the handball pitches were “fairly alright”.
“The facilities are okay although they are outdoor facilities, while modern handball facilities are designed to be used indoors.
“So far, we do not have much challenges as expected in tournaments of this kind; no teething problems at all. We also do not have disciplinary issues as yet.”
Sanyo commended Benue spectators for coming out in large numbers to cheer the teams.
He attributed the turnout to the awareness created on the sport by the organisers of the tournament, saying that the purpose of the tournament, which is to make the game popular in Benue and Nigeria, was being achieved.
The director said that 21 teams had arrived while five were still being expected.(NAN)
