NAF chief pledges to upgrade secondary schools infrastructure

The Nigeria Air Force (NAF) on Friday said it would continue to upgrade existing infrastructures in all its secondary schools to reposition them for the challenges of the 21st century.

The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadiq Abubakar, made the pledge in Kaduna at the commissioning of the NAF Comprehensive Secondary School, converted to a boarding school.

Abubakar disclosed that a total of four other NAF secondary schools in Ibadan, Uyo, Enugu and Jos had been upgraded by the service.

“The upgrade covers building new structures renovation of existing ones.

“In the area of capacity building, we have embarked on training and retraining of teachers in different fields including the use of modern teaching facilities.

“The NAF investment in education is better understood when viewed against the background of recent increase in recruitment of airmen and airwomen into the service,’’ he said

On the conversion of the school in Kaduna to a boarding facility, Abubakar explained that it was to safeguard the students who had to mingle with touts and miscreants daily on their way to school.

He explained that the school had been expanded to accommodate 720 students as against 540.

In a message to the event, Gov. Nasiru El-Rufa’i of Kaduna State said his administration placed priority to education because it serves as vehicle for sustainable human and material development.

The governor, represented by Commissioner of Education Science and Technology, Prof. Andrew Nok, said the government spend more than 35 per cent of its annual budget on education.

He commended the NAF secondary school for its excellent records over the years and hoped that it would excel the more.
