Dolce Entertainment Limited, organisers of Most Beautiful Girl in Abuja (MBGA) pageant, has extended the audition for the 2016 edition to some state capitals across the country.
Mr Ejiro Okpihwo, Chief Executive of the organisation, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja.
NAN recalls that from its inception in 2001, auditions for the annual MBGA pageant have always been held in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Okpihwo said the rationale behind the decision to extend the audition for this year’s edition of the show to some selected state capitals was to foster national unity.
“Abuja is the capital of Nigeria, and by implication every Nigerian interest should be represented here.
“We felt involving the states will foster national unity, and give a sense of belonging to young Nigerian females who may want to participate in the MBGA competition.
“If you are the Queen of the nation’s capital, you are the Queen of the nation, “he said.
According to him, the pilot audition for states will begin with five states besides the FCT, and will subsequently be extended to other states.
“We are starting with Lagos, Benin, Owerri, Awka and Calabar.
“Beautiful ladies who believe in themselves should get ready for these auditions.”
Okpihwo explained that audition for the beauty contest will commence in August beginning with Calabar on Aug. 6, followed by Benin and Awka on Aug. 13 and Aug. 14 respectively.
He added that Owerri audition was slated for Aug. 18, while the one for Lagos is scheduled to hold in Lekki and Surulere on Aug. 20 and Aug. 21 respectively.
The FCT audition was slated for Aug. 27, before the grand finale of the audition also in the FCT on Sept. 3.
According to him, the MBGA initiative is a platform to discover and empower young Nigerian ladies from different background.
“The whole idea of MBGA is to empower young ladies and we have been doing this for the past 15 years.”
He added that it has created employment opportunities for many people in the entertainment industry.
NAN reports that the MBGA is now a popular brand in pageantry business in Nigeria and beyond.
The final of the 2016 edition is scheduled to hold on Oct. 29.
