Policemen Caught Escorting VIPs On Election Day Will Be Arrested, Says IGP

Mohammed Adamu, the acting Inspector General of Police, says policemen caught escorting dignitaries on election day would be prosecuted.

He also promised to monitor the ad hoc staff, especially the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members.

He said this on Tuesday while speaking at a public presentation of a partnership between stakeholders in the election.

“No Police officer is allowed to move around with any VIP on election day. Anyone who does so in uniform or mufti will be arrested,” he said

Stating that everyone has the civic responsibility to partake in peaceful and credible elections, he noted that the election materials, electoral officials, domestic and foreign observers must be protected.
