An Abuja based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Yahya Al-Yolawi, has admonished Muslims to avoid watching pornographic movies and all acts that could lead to sexual arousal while observing fasting.
Al-Yolawi, who is the Chief Imam of Garki Area 10 Juma’ah Mosque, Abuja, gave the charge while deriving his Sermon on the “Etiquettes of Ramadan Fast“ on Friday.
The cleric said engaging in bad deeds such as watching bad movies, sports matches, attending social gatherings and hanging around in the streets with evil people are some of the things that void the fast.
Al-Yolawi said that a person who was observing fasting should avoid all kinds of forbidden actions such as backbiting, obscenity and lies, otherwise his reward may all be lost.
“Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) said it may be that a fasting person gets nothing from his fast except hunger.
“Whoever does not stop speaking falsehood and acting in accordance with it, Allah has no need of him giving up his food and drink.”
He, therefore, advised Muslims to make effective use of their health, plan and organise their time to maximise the spiritual benefits of Ramadan fast.
The cleric enjoined Muslims to feed their fellow Muslim brothers at the time of breaking of fast in order to earn bigger rewards.
According to him, anybody who offers food for the breaking of the fast of another person will earn the same rewards with the person that fasted.
Similarly, Al-Yolawi admonished the faithful to be diligent in offering charity and engaging in beneficial projects during the month of Ramadan.
“Fasting drives a fasting person to earn his living in a lawful manner and to avoid committing sins and immorality,’’ he said. (NAN)
